This training is intended to give clinicians a better awareness of strategies associated with harm reduction and how utilizing these strategies will impact areas such as: engagement; ‘motivation’; relationship/rapport; progress toward identified goals; mitigation of risk and overall quality of life for persons served. In this course, clinicians will become familiar with: barriers to collaboration with persons identified as ‘high risk’; common pitfalls experienced by treatment providers such as being ‘overprotective’ or ‘avoidant’ (‘natural consequences, etc.) and how these frameworks negatively impact the relationship with the treatment team. This training will also be an opportunity to apply these new skills to actual clinical cases through case presentation and small group discussion.
